Forget download, Guardians of the Galaxy goes old school


You'll be "Hooked on a Feeling" once the "Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1" comes out on what else, a cassette.

The blockbuster film, or at least the music, will have new life on an old format according to Entertainment Weekly.

The soundtrack, which hit the top spot on the Billboard 200, was the second soundtrack this year to reach No. 1.  "Frozen" was the first.

The difference between the two: "Frozen" had music written specifically for the movie.  Awesome Mix Vol. 1 contained only '70s hits leading man Peter Quill, a.k.a. Starlord, a.k.a. Chris Pratt, couldn't live without.  The album contained no original songs.

Since its July opening, the movie has made more than $687 million according to Entertainment Weekly .

So get out the AA batteries and dust off your Walkman, the tape will be released on Nov. 17, Time magazine reports. But there's a catch.  It will only be able to be purchased at independent retailers partnered with Record Store Day through Dec. 31.

According to Record Store Day's site, the cassette will look like the same mixtapes that anyone over the age of 35 made during their teen years, complete with pen-written case insert.
