Will 2012 be a year full of grand nights for theatergoing? Early polling will be possible later this week at the Dayton Playhouse and the Dayton Theatre Guild.
The Playhouse, 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave., will present the revue “A Grand Night for Singing” on Thursdays through Sundays, Jan. 5-15.
Richard Croskey is directing and choreographing a cast including Mathew Bone, Carol Chatfield, Kathy Clark, Patricia DiPasquale-Krul and Tom Lehmann. Ron Kendell is music director.
One of the performers, Clark, is making an overdue return to the Playhouse stage. She performed the title role in a first-rate production of “Evita” more than two decades ago when the Playhouse was located on East Third Street. She also played Desiree in “A Little Night Music” soon after the community theater relocated to its current location.
“Since I am retired from teaching (music at Centerville High School), I am dabbling here and there as long as the voice holds out,” she said.
“A Grand Night for Singing” looks at various aspects of romance in more than 30 songs from Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
Times are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and $10 for students.

The Theatre Guild, 430 Wayne Ave., will continue its “Truth and Consequence” season with Tom Stoppard’s wistful and funny play “Heroes,” about three aging World War II French army veterans who ponder their past and what’s to come.
Fred Blumenthal is directing a cast consisting of Tom Stiver, Richard Young and Gil Martin.
Times are 8 p.m. Jan. 6-7, 5 p.m. Jan. 14 and 21, and 3 p.m. Sundays through Jan. 22. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors (60 and older) and $10 for students. Children young than 7 will not be admitted. Call (937) 278-5993 or visit www.daytontheatre guild.org.
