Background: J. Austin Jennings took classes from Abner Cope at the Dayton Art Institute for more than four years; she also had instruction from the late Annamary Bierley at Sinclair Community College. She has taught art classes in her studio and Rosewood Art Centre for the past 15 years.

Latest news: Her “Worldsong” collage earned a full-page article in the December issue of The Artist’s Magazine. The acrylic painting with a collage of a bluebird in flight was chosen from 1,155 international entries for Second Place in the Experimental/Abstract category. It will be part of a feature titled “The Year’s Best Art” for the magazine’s 26th annual competition. Prints are available for purchase.

Classes: Jennings teaches two Wednesday art classes for ages 16 to adult at Rosewood Arts Centre in Kettering. Right Brain Drawing is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Acrylic Painting is 6 to 9 p.m. starting Jan. 13. Register by calling (937) 296-0294. She also teaches “Puppicasso” and “Vincent Van Dawg” Classes for Kids in her home studio. Children ages 7 through 13 learn basic drawing skills by drawing Jennings’ pets.

Future plans: Jennings’ works will be featured in a group exhibit, “Reaching Forward, Reaching Back” with Elizabeth Hertz, Winifred Fiedler, and Jessica Roller from May 14, 2010, to June 12, 2010, at the Dayton Visual Arts Center.
