Desperate times call for desperate measures.
In this depressed economy, local artist John Landsiedel has come up with an idea that will ease the price crunch for art buyers and those thinking about buying original art for the first time.
In Landsiedel’s case, a pizza box was the stimulus for a new Web site marketing plan.
“After a First Friday event at Cannery Arts and Design, we had a pizza. One of my artworks fit in the box, hence ‘www.originalartinapizzabox.com’ was born,” said Landsiedel. “This Art Stimulus Package will boost consumer spending and draw awareness to original art. It will put art in the hands of people who would not otherwise experience original artwork, and reach young consumers entering the art market.”
The discounted art includes $99 paintings, monoprints and painted furniture; the Web site will be up and running by Urban Nights on May 15. The maximum purchase limit is two artworks. According to Landsiedel, consumers have begun to shift from gallery purchases to online shopping.
The “Original Art in a Pizza Box.com” exhibit will feature small, 12 x 12 inch replicas of Landsiedel’s large scale works that will fit into the boxes.
“This allows me to easily send artwork all over the world for a patron to own, see and touch the same qualities of the large artwork,” said Landsiedel. “It offers a ‘slice’ of the work with all the same art elements: line, shape, form, space, texture, value and color. And, the piece can be traded in toward a larger artwork anytime.”
