DAYTON — With all the buzz about vampires in movies and television, it might be a good idea to stop by the Garlic Festival at Cox Arboretum
this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11.

Food vendors, including many of Dayton’s finest restaurants and caterers, will offer an array of foods involving the bulb (and hopefully will provide mints when you are finished eating). The arboretum will be lined with artisans showcasing the many uses for garlic, such as the garlic braids that can be used to decorate the home.

The festival focuses on garlic because of its many educational aspects and health benefits. Garlic is a heart healthy alternative to salt that can be used to flavor many foods, said Val Hunt, Five Rivers MetroParks public relations specialist.

Beyond the garlic, enjoy live music from the Oakwood Accordion Band and the Centerville Community Band, as well as many others.

Make your way through the Maimon Memorial Garden, an edible landscape where you can eat pretty much anything.

Go on a hayride. Kids also can get their hands dirty all day long at this year’s featured activity, the Time Warner Cable Discover and Grow Zone.
