Time Warner adding 5 channels, dropping 2

DAYTON — Time Warner Cable taketh, but it also giveth.

Although it will no longer offer HDNet and HDNet Movies to subscribers across the country as of May 31, it will offer Dayton and Cincinnati area high-definition viewers several new options before then.

“The real story is that on May 27 we will be launching Bravo, CNBC, FX, Major League Baseball and Lifetime Movies, all in HD,” at no extra cost for high-definition subscribers, Time Warner spokesperson Pam McDonald said.

The additions will be available to customers with the standard HD package, whereas HDNet and HDNet Movies have been part of a premium level.

The cable firm cited “limited appeal” as the reason for dropping the two channels nationally.

Channel positions for the new HD channels will be different in Dayton and Cincinnati.

Dayton positions will be: Major League Baseball, 784; FX, 785; Bravo, 786; Lifetime Movies, 787, and CNBC, 788.

Cincinnati locations for the same channels will be: 958,959,960, 961 and 962.

McDonald said the moves are meant “to help us stay competitive.”

Thanks, Time-Warner, for helping me make a decision on which I've been on the fence for months-- whether or not to ditch you altogether in favor of DirecTV. By dumping HDNet and HDNet Movies, both of which I love, in favor of channels I already get in SD, you've convinced me that you truly, absolutely don't care about your customers. Good bye.

"Limited appeal" for HDNet and HDNet Movies? How about doing some reporting for a change? What studies did TWC undertake that shows people would rather have Bravo, CNBC, FX, Major League Baseball and Lifetime Movies instead? How many people did TWC poll? Any reporter should be able to dig up the real story -- that every other provider has taken HDNet out of the premium tier and put it into the standard tier because of its popularity.

Where is SpeedHD? Nearly every other market has SpeedHD, but instead we get Lifetime Movies?

Time Warner Sucks!!! This is taking away 2 channels you could only get with a HD box. Then gives us some channels we already have on digital.

Once again the Time Warner GODS think they are doing us commoners a big hearty favor.. Time Warner sucks so bad, its almost funny, in a pitiful kind of way. Dont let them fool you, they`ll probably spring some kind of hidden charge into something, bet your sweet *ss on that! I sure wish the other players in the TV market could expand their service a little more faster to all the areas of Dayton, so we can give ole Time Warner the boot! Or the Finger.
