Zombies may be cool to the touch, but they’re hotter than ever — at least as far as Hollywood is concerned.
“Juno” scribe Diablo Cody is producing a movie called “Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament.”
Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment secured the rights to Max Brooks’ best-selling zombie novel “World War Z.” Marc Forster (“Quantum of Solace”) has signed on to direct.
Later this year, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin will star in “Zombieland.”
Generating big buzz at the Cannes Film Festival this year? “Colin,” a zombie movie made for $70 by director Marc Price.
The undead is courting top talent. Even Jane Austen has resurfaced on the bestseller list thanks to Seth Grahame-Smith’s new novel “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.”
In April, Time magazine wrote, “If there’s something new about today’s zombie, it’s his relatability. Sure, he’s an abomination and a crime against all that is good and holy. But he exemplifies some real American values, too. He’s plucky and tenacious — you can cut off his limbs and he’ll keep on coming atcha. And he’s humble. You won’t find zombies swanning around and putting on airs like some other monsters I could mention. They’re monsters of the people ... Long live (or is it die?) the zombie: the official monster of the recession.”
And just like Tinseltown, Dayton knows a good thing when it sees it stumbling and lurching around.
At 11 p.m. Friday, June 5, Zombies will take over the Oregon District for a “Zombie Walk event.”
The event’s Web site — www.myspace.com/zombiewalkindayton —
invites anyone to participate and encourages attendees to dress up as zombies.
Zombie walks have become increasingly popular across the country over the last year with participants taking to the streets, including in Cincinnati and Columbus.
Participants are encouraged to remain in character, so there’s only one word you really need to remember: ... braaaa-aaains!
