Dorothy Lane Market will host its annual Baconfest this weekend, featuring free samples of several different specialty products and dishes that will all have one smoky, salty, craveable ingredient in common.
Baconfest 2017 is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday AND Sunday, Jan. 28-29, and at all three Dorothy Lane Market stores: in Oakwood, Washington Twp. and Springboro.
Each store will have about a dozen “sampling stations” for products such as Bacon Cheddar Pull-Apart Bread, Salted Bourbon Chocolate Bacon, Maple Bacon Baby Cake, and DLM Maple Bacon Gelato.
New this year is the “Bacon Lounge,” located in each store’s Beer & Wine department, where shoppers can sample beers with their bacon (each DLM offers “growler refill” craft beers on tap). Beers can be paired with various DLM Uncured Bacon flavors, including Hickory-Smoked, Applewood-Smoked, and Peppered bacon.
Crooked Handle Brewing Company, a neighbor of DLM’s Springboro store, has created a special brew for the Baconfest. “Dig the Pig” will be available at each store. DLM officials described the beer as a “classic smoked beer using cherry-smoked hops and infused with DLM nitrite-free bacon and DLM maple syrup.”
For runners who find ambition and inspiration in sampling bacon and beer, Flying Pig Marathon representatives will be on hand at the Washington Square store on Saturday, and at the Springboro store on Sunday, to register runners for and answer questions about for the 2017 marathon in Cincinnati.
“Baconfest started out four years ago because we were having a terrible winter that year and everyone, including ourselves, were suffering from cabin fever,” Jack Gridley, DLM’s vice president of meat and seafood, told this news outlet in an email. “It seemed like an event that would appeal to the sensory part of the brain and stimulate everyone to come out and gather over the great aromas of bacon.”View full experience
