Dayton Flyers fall into first-place tie with VCU

Virginia Commonwealth dominated the Dayton Flyers in the last five minutes, and despite a late run in the final minute by UD, the Flyers fell 73-68 on Friday at the Siegel Center, and once again are tied atop the Atlantic 10 Conference.

UD’s star: Kendall Pollard led the Flyers with 19 points and seven rebounds.

VCU’s star: Justin Tillman made 8 of 13 shots and scored 18 points.

Key stat: Dayton was outscored 26-8 on second-chance points. VCU had 18 offensive rebounds to eight for the Flyers.

Big run: UD led 48-46, and VCU then went on a 11-1 run to take control for good.

Big picture: Dayton fell to 15-5 and 6-2 in the A-10. VCU is 16-5 and also 6-2. Richmond is also tied atop the league at 6-2.


The Dayton Flyers let a 10-point lead get away from them, but they took a 33-31 halftime lead over Virginia Commonwealth on Friday night at the Siegel Center.

UD’s star: Kendall Pollard scored eight points for the Flyers.

VCU’s star: Justin Tillman leads the Rams with eight points.

Key stat: The Flyers shot 12 of 23 from the field (52.2 percent). They are 13-0 when they shoot better than 40.

Big run: UD led 31-21 with 5:29 to go, but VCU outscored UD 10-2 the rest of the way.
