UD pulls away from Richmond late to hand Spiders first A-10 loss

The Dayton Flyers pulled away from Richmond in the final five minutes to win 75-59 Thursday at UD Arena.

UD star: Charles Cooke led the Flyers with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

Richmond star: T.J. Cline made 8 of 16 shots and scored 21 points.

Key stat: Dayton made 21 of 26 free throws, many in the final minutes as Richmond tried to extend the game by fouling.

Big run: Dayton led 56-53 with five minutes left and went on a 12-2 run to put the game away.

Big picture: The Flyers and Spiders are tied atop the A-10 at 5-1.

The Dayton Flyers lit up the nets from beyond the arc in the first half Thursday against Richmond, making 7 of 14 3-pointers to build a 40-29 halftime lead at UD Arena.

UD star: Ryan Mikesell made 4 of 5 shots from the field, all from inside the arc, and scored nine points.

Richmond star: T.J. Cline leads the Spiders with 11 points. He didn't get a rebound in the first half.

Stat of the half: Richmond made 1 of 12 3-pointers and 11 of 16 shots inside the arc.

Big run: The Flyers led 25-23 after a 3-pointer by Richmond's Marshall Wood, who talked trash to Archie Miller on his way back down the court. He got a warning from the referee, and Richmond coach Chris Mooney apologized to Miller. Dayton went on a 15-2 run after that in the next 5 minutes.
