Ranking the best senior classes in Dayton Flyers history

The 2016-17 Dayton Flyers senior class stands alone with the most wins in school history. The 85-63 victory over Saint Louis on Tuesday at Chaifetz Arena was the 98th for starters Scoochie Smith, Kyle Davis, Kendall Pollard and Charles Cooke and walk-ons Joey Gruden and Jeremian Bonsu.

Where does this four-year stretch rank in UD history in terms of winning percentage?

The 1958 senior class starring Jack McCarthy, Don Lane and Bucky Bockhorn, owns the best career winning percentage (.817). Dayton played 26 regular-season games during that era. Teams now play 30. Of course, freshmen didn’t play then, so those seniors were only on the court for the last three years.

The 2016-17 seniors have the most wins and the best winning percentage since 1972-73 when freshmen were first allowed to play. Thirteen classes in UD history have finished their careers with winning percentages above .700. Here’s a look at the classes that reached that mark or won 90 games:
