Growing up in Paducah, Ky., Steven Curtis Chapman
could often be found listening to the Grand Ole Opry with his family. So this Saturday night (March 16) is a dream come true for the award-winning Christian music artist, as he's performing on the Opry with his dad Herb Chapman, Sr., and brother Herb, Jr. Both featured on his new album, Deep Roots
, which became available this week at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations.
"When I was a kid if the weather was just right we could hear WSM [AM] playing," Steven tells The Boot. "My dad would tune it in. We'd be driving home from the store and I remember him saying, 'Son, that's the Grand Ole Opry!' You'd hear Lester Flatt
or Bill Monroe
play their songs and my dad said, 'That's where music comes from right there!'"
