Investigators look over a self-built, experimental plane that crashed in a soybean field in Miami Twp. just south of Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport. The pilot, Kurtis Wray, 53, of Beavercreek, was taken to Greene Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to fire officials. Officials say his engine cut out after he took off from the Springfield airport, and he crashed trying to get back.

More than 3,000 people took part in the the Greater Dayton Start! 5K Heart Walk and Run at Wright State University. Proceeds from the event sponsored by the American Heart Association will go to research and education about heart disease and its prevention through healthy habits.

For more than a year, the 61-year-old retired Delphi engineer and Centerville resident Mike Fanelli circled the globe, much of it with his daughter Laura. In all, Fanelli traveled through 32 countries — on $50 a day.

After the collision, the woman's vehicle slammed into a nearby building and burst into flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and the woman was hospitalized.
