Life

If 2008 is getting you down, this is the weekend to travel in time (and space, of course) to places that celebrate a simpler way of life, when women couldn't vote and being a wench was a full-time job.

The Fair at New Boston over near Springfield re-enacts Revolutionary War times right down to the last shoelace; the Renaissance Festival outside Waynesville will take you back even further if you're so inclined, but there, historical accuracy has given way to commercial expedience — in a good, very fun, way.

Kettering's Holiday at Home will keep you in the here and now, this year celebrating 50 years of life in and around Far Hills Avenue. It's an embarrassment of riches around here this weekend: The downtown Reggae Festival makes for a great Sunday afternoon, and Alter Family FunFest is one of those things around which many calendars are built around.

There's too much to list here, so we've devoted today's LIFE! section to things to do this holiday weekend. It's still up to you to decide how to spend it — the choices are mind-boggling. Don't say we didn't warn you.
