Can't find a sitter? Don't sweat it. You no longer have to stay at home to see a good movie

Comment: Do you get out much? How do you find time for fun while being a busy mom?

DAYTON — For parents of infants, the options for watching buzz-worthy movies are slim: wait months until they come out on video or HBO (and the hype is gone) or guiltily hire a baby-sitter and go out Of course you could always bring your baby along to the theater — and then face a roomful of disparaging glares at every coo or whimper.

Fortunately, there is a smart compromise: Cinema de Lux at the Greene offers a program called Baby Pictures every Tuesday at 10 a.m., where special accommodations are made to allow parents and caregivers to bring their babies along.

A stroller check, dimmed lights and lowered sound make child care easier. Two changing stations — consisting of foam mats on the floor and a garbage can — are set at the front of the theater. Breakfast items also are for sale.

Tickets are $6.50 for adults, $1 for children 13 months to 3 years old and free for babies up to a year old. Recently played movies include "Mama Mia," "Wall E," "Swing Vote," "Iron Man," "Made of Honor" and "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2."

Cinema de Lux at the Greene is one of three participating theaters in Ohio. Baby Pictures began in 2003 in Massachusetts and now runs at select theaters in 11 states.

OK, I’ll grant that going to a movie at 10 AM would probably result in less traffic and the little ones would probably not be quite so cranky. I’ve actually been to the theatre at the Greene, and to be honest, I wasn’t impressed. We had to walk for what seemed like forever to get around the side of the building, and we parked pretty close due to being with a handicapped individual. She was exhausted when we got in though. I’d honestly rather go to the Regal at Fairfield Commons…

Con’t. Also, it was nice in the early Spring to walk around after the movie, then go to lunch. Just not at the Cheesecake Factory. We had some very unsatisfactory experiences there with their attitude towards babies and strollers. Also, Lea, the parking lot at the Greene is right across from the theater—it’s great! I do think that I wouldn’t want to cart shopping bags back and forth across the place, though—I’ll give you that.

This came in very handy last winter for my SIL and I. The times we went, there were very few other people there. On one occasion, just us! And all the babies were very well behaved—not a noise. Not insane at all, Lea! When you’ve been trapped in the house long enough through the winter, it’s a great way to get out. The hardest part I found was waking up in enough time to get somewhere by 10!

I love my kids, but this is insane. I don’t spend that much money on a movie to hear a screaming baby. I’ll be avoiding these showings for sure. Although parking being what it is at the Greene, I don’t go there much, so it won’t be that hard.
