Grab your sneakers (and black tie) for Links benefit
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
What/when/where? Sneakers Ball at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Nutter Center at Wright State University.
Why are we celebrating? This annual event, sponsored by the Dayton Chapter of the Links Inc., raises funds for programming activities for Dayton Public schoolchildren.
"Our program, Links to Life, focuses on education, fitness, financial literacy, etiquette and teen parenting education," Links member Sharon Richardson said. The first phase of the project is a partnership with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, which will bring dance to Wogaman School.
What's in store? Silent auction, music and Big Band sounds by Deron Bell & Jazz for You Band and Hal Harris & The Little Big Band, dancing, gourmet dinner and a raffle.
What's the buzz? "What makes this black-tie event so unique is that instead of wearing tight evening shoes, everyone gets to wear "sneakers" with their formal attire," Richardson said.
Major event sponsors include Vectren, Ross Motor Cars, Premier Health Partners, Dayton Foundation, Dayton Power & Light and Taft, Stettinius and Hollister.
