Dog licenses are good investment for owners
ID enhances odds that if your pup gets loose, it will be returned to you
Sunday, December 03, 2006
It's time again to make your beagle legal.
Dog licenses for 2007 are now on sale in most Ohio counties. Any dog older than 3 months is required to have a valid tag. In addition to helping some counties pay for much needed spaying and neutering programs, the licenses are important to all dog owners. It could mean the difference between life and death for your pet.

How?
Suppose your pet gets out of the yard and runs off. A dog with a current license on his collar has a much better chance of getting back into your loving arms. Whoever finds the animal will see the tag and either check the auditor's Web site to see who owns the animal, or call an agency to come get the dog. Then, they will check the license and determine who the dog's owner is.
A dog without a license could be scooped up and taken to an already overcrowded shelter where he sits for a few days until he is euthanized.
Isn't your dog worth the cost of the license to your family?
Warren County 2007 dog licenses sell for $15 for regular tags, $20 for bone tags (which provide a $5 donation to the Humane Association) and $75 for a kennel tag (five tags, each additional tag is $1.) After Jan. 31, the tags go up $15.
The tags may be purchased at numerous locations around the county, including vets, city offices, the county auditor's office, the humane association, Springboro Hardware, Morrow Lumber Co., the B&B Carryout in Waynesville and Ace Hardware in Lebanon. Check www.co.warren.oh.us for more information and locations
In Montgomery County, 2007 licenses sell for $16 for regular tags, $21 for bone tags and $26 for heart tags (which provide donations for the spaying programs.) Visit www.mcohio.org to get more details, fill out an application form or check for the license of a lost dog.
In Greene County, the license is $12. You can also apply online at www.co.greene.oh.us.
In Miami County, a license is $10 and a kennel license is $50.
Pamper your pup
at resort
Once you have a legal dog, you may need to give the dog a break. Three Fairfield High School grads have opened a new business called Pet City Resort in West Chester to cater to pamper pups. The resort promises to pamper your pet in a 7,200-square-foot facility that features playtime with Pupcorn and movie, 24-hour television viewing, complimentary baths for dogs staying five days (with a paw-dicure, of course) and comfy cots and beds. Soon, owners will be able to check on their pets via Web cam. Kitties also are welcome and have their own cabins.
Pet City Resort is at 9474 Princeton-Glendale Road, just down the road from Tri-County Mall. To contact Pet City Resort, call 898-9631.
Waynesville pushing
for dog park
Waynesville dog park advocates are forming a community dog park club to help establish a park in the community to use without cost.
The group is trying to work with the Waynesville Park and Recreation Board to analyze sites. Donations for the park will be tax-deductible. And a Web site is being constructed.
To get involved in the effort or to send photos of your dog for the Web site, e-mail Waynesdogpark@aol.com.
