You can take Martin Bayless out of Dayton, but you can't take Dayton out of him.

The former NFL defensive back from Bowling Green State University and Belmont High School keeps giving back to the youth of his hometown.

Extras

The Martin Bayless Free Football Camp will take place for the 23rd straight year at Welcome Stadium on Sunday, June 8.

The event, which features instruction and autographs from NFL players, consists of two sessions.

Campers from the third through seventh grades will register from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and receive instruction until noon. Campers from the eighth through 12th grades will register from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and receive instruction until 5 p.m.

Turf appropriate shoes or sneakers must be worn. However, no football pads or equipment is needed by campers, who receive a free lunch and T-shirt.

The signature of a parent or guardian on-site is required for registration and participation.

"We try to make this camp a positive, motivating experience," Bayless said. "We educate campers about teamwork, decision-making, setting goals, trust, tolerance, and other qualities that are necessary for success in sports and in life.

"Many thanks are due to the Dayton community for its unwavering support of the Martin Bayless Charitable Foundation and our efforts to create positive experiences for youth."

Bayless was a fourth-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1984. His playing career spanned 13 seasons (1984-96) with St. Louis, Buffalo, San Diego, Kansas City and Washington.
