Members of the First United Methodist Church in New Carlisle take the traditional, annual candy fundraiser to another level by producing boxes of holiday caramel by hand.

The members of the church started cooking the 285 batches of caramel candy earlier this month and before they’re through will produce 1,000 pounds of plain caramels and 500 pounds of pecan caramels.

This is the 13th year for the project.

Members of South Park United Methodist Church in Dayton shared their recipe with members of the FUMC and the rest is history.

A pound of regular caramels is $8 while the pecan caramels are $9.50 a pound.

To order, call the church office at 845-8435, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. The church is located at 220 S Main Street, New Carlisle.

I have had the pleasure of tasting this caramel and it it the best I have ever had, but after seeing these pictures, I am dismayed at the fact that everyone was handling the candy with their bare hands.
