Times are tough and many are finding that annual, coss-country family vacations aren’t in the realm of economic possibility this year. Not heading to the beach or hopping on a plane to Disney World doesn’t mean there’s no opportunity to escape for a little break.

No need to drag the family on a painfully long road trip in the sweltering heat or stay in a hotel room when a ‘staycation’ can save you from breaking your budget and the unnecessary stress of vacation planning. Ohio is riddled with little pockets of fun and amusement so all it takes for a day-long reprieve is a little enthusiasm and a tank of gas.

I'm not bragging, I'm just stating a fact. One of the main reasons we are going is because that's where we wanted to go on our honeymoon but we couldn't because my husband hadn't acquired enough vacation time. It's also because the CAD is less so we are saving money. We are also driving, not flying to save money and our hotel is a condo hotel so we have breakfast included but also a kitchen in the room to make our own food to save money. You can be frugal and still have a nice vacation.

There are plenty of great places to go in Ohio that are a couple of hours to go or less. Amish Country, Hocking Hills, Zoar Village, the rock and roll and football halls of fame, any number of Ohio River towns like Portsmouth and Marietta, Grand Lake St. Mary's, lots of flea markets and antique malls, battlefields and forts from the Reviolutionary war, war of 1812 and Civil War, not to mention so many great museums. And I am volunteering at CityFolk. Watch out for my golf cart.

Some of us can't afford a vacation to Canada. So yes Laserquest is a vacation. Thanks for bragging and making the rest of us feel bad.
