Ex-Englewood editor to sign book
Clem Boyd, former editor of the Englewood Independent, will sign copies of his recently released book “What Does God Want Me To Do?” from 1 to 3 p.m. today, May 2, at New & Olde Pages Bookshoppe, 856 Union Blvd. in Englewood.
Boyd, who served as editor of the Englewood Independent in 1989-90, also wrote a regular column called Boyd’s Eye View, in which he explored daily life and spiritual themes.
“It was in college that I accepted Christ into my life,” says Boyd, who says he has been interested in spirituality ever since.
In 2005, the Beavercreek resident started writing about the challenges of being a free-lancer and stay-at-home dad as they related to his religion. Those jottings became the basis of his book.
Boyd als interviewed a number of people whose lives changed as a result of their relationship with God. Among them are Dr. Tim Norman, professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering at Cedarville University; Donna Jordan-Mitchell, former news anchor at WHIO-TV (Channel 7) and former Walt Disney animator Jim Jinkins, who created “Doug,” “PB&J Otter,” “Stanley” and the currently popular pre-school show “Pinky Dinky Doo.”
Boyd’s book is published by Tate Publishing and sells for $15.99. It’s available at bookstores and online and will soon be available as an audio book through the publisher.
Many of his stories are archived online at www.clemboyd.com.
Session explores money and faith
“Are Capitalism and the Spiritual Life Compatible?”
A Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspective on that subject will be discussed from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Dayton Mercy Society, 2277 Maue Road in Miamisburg.
Speakers will be Rabbi David Sofian, Dr. Richard Righter and Dr. Khurshid Ahmad. Each will speak for 20 minutes, then take questions from the audience.
The free event is sponsored by the Greater Dayton Interfaith Trialogue.
Rev.-comic to lead free sessions
Rich Melheim, Lutheran reverend stand-up comedian and founder of Faith Inkubators, will be at United Theological Seminary, 4501 Denlinger Road, Dayton, on May 14.
The. Rev. Melheim will lead two free sessions from 1 to 5 p.m. for church workers and ministry leaders, and a 7 p.m event for families.
The event is one stop on a 75-city tour designed to “help families laugh, learn and lighten loads.”
In the afternoon sessions, Melheim will share practical ways for churches to help parents and grandparents nurture children and teens in their faith. Both sessions will feature five ways to keep families close during trying times.
The evening event will be “50 percent stand-up comedy, 50 percent practical parenting advice, nine percent pillow fighting and 100 percent just plain fun.”
