Clothes have always been a big part of Cathy Martin’s life, but the Vandalia resident said they don’t make her.
“Who we are is from our hearts. It’s fun to dress up, but it is about what is inside,” Martin said recently at Cox Arboretum MetroPark.
Her looks have been getting attention since she was born. Martin, the “C” in the ABC Triplets, began modeling with her sisters, Anita and Becky, as a baby.
In costumes ranging from white boots and miniskirts to gowns, the trio later known as the Lindsay Triplets sang around the world. They appeared on the “Johnny Carson Show,” toured for the U.S.O. and entertained at the Thule Air Force Base in Greenland.
They dressed alike every day and still have similar tastes.
“We loved it,” Martin recalled. “One day in high school, we dressed in different clothes and the other kids didn’t like it, so we went back.”
Even when not on stage, Martin said her mother dressed the triplets well.
“Always try to look your best,” she said.
That lesson has stayed with the Champaign, Ill. native through her life.
Martin and her husband Steve are Realtors for Keller Williams Home Town Realty in Vandalia.
She gravitates toward unique accessories and antique jewelry sold in small-town shops. The mother of two adult offspring has nearly 20 scarves in her collection and often dresses up outfits with a jacket. “It just looks a little bit more professional,” she said.
