DAYTON — We all hope we’ll never need to use the Ronald McDonald House, but for those families who do, it’s a community blessing.
Ronald McDonald House Charities provides a warm and temporary home-away-from-home for families of critically ill, hospitalized children. It also supports efforts that improve children’s health within our region. The house serves about 500 families each year.
“Many families eat three meals a day plus snacks at the House,” says guest service manager Susan Pleiss. “We also have a Day Guest program so that people from the hospital — even local people — can come over here and get a meal between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.” There are no charges for those meals.
What they need
FOOD ITEMS: Loaves of bread, sticks of butter for baking, regular tea bags, individual liquid coffee creamers, powdered coffee creamer, ketchup, sugar, salt, basic baking and cooking spices in small containers, individual sweet snacks (such as Little Debbies, Oreo packs, 100 calorie packs), individual fruit snacks, pudding and Jello cups, microwavable macaroni and cheese, microwavable cups of ravioli or Spaghetti-O’s.
NON-FOOD ITEMS: Liquid laundry detergent, multi-purpose anti-bacterial spray such as Formula 409, Lysol or Clorox disinfectant wipes, Lysol disinfectant spray, 13-gallon tall kitchen garbage bags, paper napkins, plastic cutlery, disposable bowls.
