Dayton bakery adds new co-owner, expands offerings

A Dayton bakery that specializes in desserts has a new co-owner and some new offerings on the way.

Moore Dessert Please — which was founded in May 2012 at 1003 Shroyer Road in Dayton by Brittany Moore and her mother Tina — is now co-owned by 21-year-old Justin Livingston of Huber Heights.

“I’ve been a customer of this bakery from the start, and I’ve always had a strong interest in baking,” Livingston said.

He got to know Brittany Moore well from the other side of the counter while also operating his own online bakery for three years called “Delish by Justin.” Then, “One day I said to her, ‘Seriously, if you ever want to franchise, think of me first,’” Livingston said. Instead of franchising a second location, Livingston ended up joining the existing bakery.

Moore Dessert Please specializes in cupcakes, but unlike many other cupcake bakeries, its menu also includes cakes, cookies and other desserts.

The bakery recently added a larger version of its signature chocolate chip cookie, which it sells as part of a fund-raiser for local non-profit organizations. And Livingston and Brittany Moore are working on other new products, including a cookie pie — “our version of a cookie cake,” Livingston said — that will be unveiled in about a month. Seasonal cupcake sundaes and ice cream will return with spring.

The bakery owners also are experimenting with baked (rather than fried) doughnuts, and are moving toward eventually opening earlier in the morning with an array of doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and muffins, Livingston said. Candy and fudge also are part of the long-term plans.

“We want to be a full-service bakery and sweets shop,” Livingston said.

The bakery is located near Carmel’s Mexican restaurant, just on the Dayton side of the Oakwood border. Brittany and Tina Moore operated an online-only bakery for nearly two years before opening the retail storefront shop. The Moores appeared twice on the former Food Network show, “Cupcake Wars,” in 2012.

Moore Dessert Please is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday and Monday. For more information, check out the Moore Dessert Please Facebook page or call (937) 297-0293.
