One of the Dayton area’s most crave-worthy homes is off the market.
The sale of 151 Brown Street in Dayton’s Oregon District closed Friday, Sept. 29, according to a representative from the office of Steve Brown, a broker and owner at Irongate Realtors.
The house sold for $725,000, nearly $200,000 less than the $895,000 listed price.
It is an even bigger steal when you consider that Dr. Mike Ervin invested more than $1.6 million into the property after buying it in 2007.
FIRST REPORT (May 3, 2017):
A swanky Oregon District home that once held Southern Belle is on sale.
One of Dayton’s most unique homes could be yours for a steal: $895,000.
The Oregon District property that Dr. Mike Ervin transformed from a “broken down bar with its roof falling in” into a home envied by many is now on the market.
The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home at 151 Brown Street was finished over a two-year period at a construction cost of $1.6 million.
“It was a labor of love,” Ervin said of the “smart” home, which features a great room and an impressive rooftop garden overlooking Newcom Founder's Park.
Among other things, Ervin, the founder and former CEO of Wright Health Associates, is co-chair of the Downtown Dayton Partnership and is chairman of the board for CareSource, a nonprofit that manages the medical care.
Ervin says he is committed to Dayton and plans to remain active. He said he spends part of his time in Arizona and does not need a Dayton house as large as his 5,026 square-foot home, where he hosted several parties and community fundraisers.
He bought the property, the former site of the Southern Belle, in 2007 for $72,000, according to Montgomery County records.
The bar relocated to 134 N. Patterson Boulevard.
Ervin said he wanted to live downtown and loves the Oregon District.
He always wanted a larger home.
“If any place in Dayton I would want to live, it would be downtown,” he said.
The property was originally built in 1990, according to the listing on Irongate Realtors website.
