A Jamestown man died Monday after spending five days in a hospital for injuries he suffered after he fell off a banister outside Adobe Gila's bar and restaurant at The Greene.

Beavercreek police identified the man as 25-year-old Todd Jette.

Jette was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m. Monday at Miami Valley Hospital, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.

Police were called to the Mexican-themed bar, 78 Plum St., around 1 a.m. on Dec. 6 to assist paramedics with a man who had fallen over the banister, Sgt. Jim Wuebben said.

Police believe Jette had been in the bar with friends since 10 p.m.

"He had apparently been asked to leave the bar because he was pouring beer on another patron," Wuebben said.

But Jette didn't want to just walk out.

"From what I understand he was trying to ride the stair handrail down to the bottom of the stair case and he fell backwards on the concrete floor down below (at least 17 feet)," Wuebben said. "Through our investigation we have found that there is no foul play."

"We are deeply saddened by the death of this young man and extend our sympathy to his family, friends and community. We are currently assisting the city of Beavercreek with their investigation and therefore cannot comment further at this point," said Mike Duffey, spokesman for The Greene.

Jette was a first-team all-Miami Valley soccer player for Greeneview High School's 1999 team, which was his senior year. He went on to captain the team at Southern State Community College in Hillsboro.

Erika Henderson of Las Vegas, who went to high school with Jette, said "he truly touched everyone's lives that he came in contact with. We will miss him terribly."

Jette is survived by his 5-year-old daughter, Lexi; his parents, Steve and Shirley Jette of Jamestown; a brother and a sister.
