A pumped-up crowd of 1,500 greeted Sen. Hillary Clinton here on Saturday, Feb. 23, waving campaign signs and applauding, especially when she promised to bring change when "the two oilmen leave the White House."

And they loved her pointed jabs at Sen. Barack Obama, her opponent in the March 4 Democratic primary.

"I thought it was wonderful," said Sherry DeLong, 46, of Fairborn after the speech at Wayne High School. "She has a plan and she doesn't just give a pretty speech."

Rita Phillips, 60, of Englewood said she supports Clinton's positions on the economy, the Iraq war and health care.

"I think she's right on," Phillips said. "I'm voting for Hillary."

As for Obama, Phillips said, "I think he's a charmer. He's the kind of guy you'd like to go out on a date with."

Mace Cofield, 60, of Dayton, said he wasn't ready to say who he'll vote for, but he called Clinton "the most progressive candidate in the race."

Huber Heights resident, A.J. Davidson, said Clinton can deal with such challenges as the war, the deficit and inflation.

"I look at the working class people and my heart goes out to them," Davidson said.

Kathy Shazier of Dayton wanted to see Clinton on Saturday and Obama on Monday at the Nutter Center before deciding who'd get her vote.

But Vandalia resident Chris McLaughlin already knows she's voting for Clinton. She brought her granddaughters, Harley, 13, and Chrissy, 10, to the rally.

"I did want them to see this powerful lady who will probably make their future brighter," McLaughlin said. "I think she's strong and capable."
