DAYTON — Temperatures in the Miami Valley will drop below zero again Friday night, and the National Weather Service has extended the wind chill advisory until 10 a.m. Saturday.
The cold weather combined with the wind will cause a wind chill between 10 and 20 degrees throughout the night and possibly into the morning. Winds will slow down during the evening but increase again by morning.
Though the temperature at Dayton General Airport South was minus 7 as of 10:56 a.m., the Miami Valley Hospital reported they saw no hypothermia cases on Friday. Cases ranged from chest pain to broken bones as a result of shoveling injuries, falls on the ice and weather-related car accidents. Doctors advised that no one go outside unless absolutely necessary.
Miami Valley AAA said it received many calls throughout the day regarding vehicle maintenance. The call volume was three times the average, with the majority of calls concerning dead batteries.
After dark Friday temperatures will continue to fall and reach a low of 3 around 3 a.m. It will be partly cloudy and wind will come from the south between 3 and 9 miles per an hour. A rapid freeze up is likely within the next six hours.
Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 30, but wind chill will still be a problem early in the day. A south wind around 15 miles an hour is expected.
There's a chance of an inch of snow after dark Saturday when the low will be around 21 with a south wind around 15 miles an hour.
There's a lingering chance of snow on Sunday and Sunday night. The high on Sunday will stay in the 30s and on Monday, Martin Luther King Day, drop to the low 20s.
