Dayton is a city in southwestern Ohio, United States. It is the county seat and largest city of Montgomery County.

The Dayton metropolitan area, or Greater Dayton, which includes the communities of Vandalia, Clayton, Englewood, Oakwood, Bellbrook, Trotwood, Kettering, Piqua, Tipp City, Centerville, Beavercreek, Fairborn, West Carrollton, Huber Heights, Troy, Riverside, and Miamisburg, had a population of 843,577 as of the 2005 estimate.

Dayton plays host to significant industrial, aerospace, and technological/engineering research activity and is known for the many technical innovations and inventions developed there.

The city was the home of the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords, which brought an end to the war in Bosnia. The Wright brothers, poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, and entrepreneur John H. Patterson were born in Dayton.

The Dayton area is home to several major international, national, and regional corporations, including NCR, Reynolds & Reynolds, ChemStation International, Liberty Bank, NewPage Corporation, Standard Register, WorkflowOne (formerly Relizon), Huffy Bicycles, LexisNexis, and Mead prior to becoming MeadWestvaco. It was formerly home of Speedwell Motor Car Company.

Teacher remembered by school

Students at Belle Haven PreK-8 School released balloons Tuesday in a tribute to art teacher Nancy Tolle who died in March. Tolle, who taught in the Dayton Public Schools system for nearly 30 years, taught at Belle Haven for 25 years. She was also an animal lover so students at the school are collecting "pennies for pets" to donate to SICSA in her honor.

Crews battle back-to-back fires

The Dayton fire department battled two fully involved fires within one hour of each other, Monday, April 9, 2012, taxing its resources. The first occurred in the 2900 block of East Third Street. It completely destroyed the vacant home, and damaged two other adjacent home. The second fire, which occurred at 22 Parnell Ave., caused approximately $50,000 in damage and killed a family dog. No one was injured.
