KETTERING — A White Castle Restaurant that has been serving the chain's signature Slyders for nearly a quarter century at 2890 Wilmington Pike has closed.

The restaurant is slated for demolition, and will be replaced by a Sonic restaurant, according to Tom Robillard, the city of Kettering's director of planning and development.

White Castle spokesman Jamie Richardson said today, Aug. 12, that his Columbus-based fast-food chain is constantly evaluating its restaurants and concluded that it was "more beneficial for us to not operate on that site." The restaurant, on leased property, opened in 1984, Richardson said. It closed last week, Richardson said.

Each White Castle typically employs 20 to 30 people, and the chain offers employees the opportunity to transfer to other White Castle restaurants, Richardson said.

A sign in the Kettering restaurant's parking lot directs customers to White Castles at 119 N. James H. McGee Blvd. in Dayton and 7601 Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights.

While I’ll miss the White castle in Kettering, I am so happy that we are getting a sonic. Both places give my boyfriend a “jump start”, either way though we love them. We have had our White castle fix in Kettering, time for new blood. All we need now is a Hardees closer…

Bummer, no White Castle should ever close for something so completely inferior as a Sonic……..I would kill to have a White Castle out here in Colorado, the closest they ever were was in Kansas City and they don’t even have them there anymore, the closest now is St. Louis…….We have Sonics on every corner here and while they’re not bad, they can in no way compare to the deliciousness that is White Castle….

As a gastrointestnal surgeon, I see more than I need to of intestinal blockage. I use Sonic/White Castle/(and, if I’m in the south…Krystal’s—-White Castle hamburgers with an accent)to free the upper and lower colon of obsrtuctions. I charge the same, but add the cost of the White Castles charged by the ambulance crew to my bill. Oh, almost forgot. There’s an ambulance interior clean up bill added after the ambulance is “sprayed”. Good stuff…those White Castles!!!

But I was supposed to have an eating contest, scheduled for Saturday, with Slyders. Now I’m mad!

I’ve been to the Sonic in Clayton……just once. Will never go back. Their food is nasty, gross. What they charge for the mess they serve is ridiculous. The employees are rude, stupid, and slow. There isn’t one good thing I can say about Sonic.

You are all fools. The best meal would be a half dozen sliders with onion chips and a big red at White Castle followed by a foot long cheese coney, tater tots and a strawberry banana slush at Sonic. They would not have had to blow up the Stewart St bridge, the toxic spill over into the Great Miami from the colon blow the next day would have dropped the bridge in a second!

Why bother with either one? Just buy a tub of lard at Kroger and eat it with a spoon!

I’m so sad to hear that White Castle closed. One of my favs since childhood, I felt lucky to be close to one. My husband and I drove out to the new sonic in Huber. It was gross. and WAY overpriced! a total disapointment. I guess the next time we go to Huber we will drive past the sonic on the way to WC.

SONIC IS NASTY. THE BUNS ARE BIGGER THAN THE MEAT. FORGET IT WHITE CASTLE HAMBURGERS AND THE OTHER SANDWICHES ARE THE BEST.

SONIC HAMBURGERS ARE NASTY. WE WENT TO THE ONE IN CLAYTON BY THE NEAR WALMART AND WE HAD HAMBURGERS AND FISH. THE MEAT WAS SMALLER THAN THE BUN. I WOULD PREFER WHITE CASTLE ANYDAY INSTEAD OF SONIC. THEY USED TO BE IN DAYTON A LONG TIME AGO AND DIDN’T LAST AND BRINGING THEM BACK AGAIN IS TERRIBLE. KEEP THE WHITE CASTLE HAMBURGERS AND THE OTHER SANDWICHES..

I am so sad that White Castle has closed…there are not any White Castles near Beavercreek..WPAFB or Kettering. Huber Heights is too far to have to drive. Instead of a Sonic in Kettering and a Sonic in Beavercreek they should have left the one in Kettering. I also think a White Castle location near Beavercreek would do really well…especially by WPAFB.

I have heard good things about Sonic. BUT, I NEED TO SATISFY MY CRAVING ON A REGULAR BASIS !! Sonic could have been put on part of the much unused parking lot behind White Castle. I have been in “heaven” with the the quadrangle of “favorite restaurants since childhood” (White Castle, Skyline, Frisch’s, LaRosa’s).

Like the previous poster said I am a Sonic regular. My family and I drive bi-weekly to Middletown for our Sonic Burger and Cherry Limeade. I am so glad that there’s one in Huber Heights now, and one being built in Beavercreek and now Kettering! I enjoy their menu ten times more than I ever did White Castle. To each his/her own indeed. Rock on Sonic!

Wow. I’m sorry you guys have had such terrible experiences at Sonic. While my husband was still in and we lived in NC, we went all the time! I also had them back home in Fl and haven’t had a bad order yet. To each is own I guess

I really like White Castle sandwiches, but the menu that Sonic has is great! Have driven many times to Middletown just for Sonic and will be glad to have one closer.
