Miamisburg may be in line for 200 new jobs

Miamisburg may be in line for 200 new jobs if a Moraine manufacturer is able to consolidate operations there.

Kurz-Kasch Inc. has been awarded a 45-percent Ohio tax credit for an expansion that will put 200 full-time jobs in Miamisburg, the Ohio Department of Development said this week.

Carol Slone, assistant to George Kochanowski, Kurz-Kasch chief executive, said Tuesday, Aug. 26, that the company was not prepared to comment on the state's announcement.

"We need to make sure we are able to pull all the pieces together," Slone said. She declined to confirm or correct the state's announcement.

But officials in Miamisburg and Moraine confirm the state's explanation of the situation.

Keith Johnson, economic development director for Miamisburg, said Kurz-Kasch — a designer and producer of electromagnetic coils, solenoids, thermoset composite molded parts and more — explored options for consolidation in Dayton and even beyond Ohio.

Today, the company is drawn to a former CEVA Logistics facility at 511 Byers Road, Johnson said. (CEVA was a parts sequencer for General Motors Corp. before CEVA closed earlier this year.)

"It appears as though they (Kurz-Kasch) are ready to commit to bringing those jobs to the Miamisburg facility," Johnson said.

He expects the company to seek Montgomery County ED/GE (Economic Development/Government Equity) funds, as well.

Based at 2271 Arbor Blvd., Kurz-Kasch has about 12 employees at its headquarters, said Mike Davis, Moraine economic development director.

The state credit is for a six-year term to allow the company's expansion into Miamisburg, the state said. The credit is for an expansion that is expected not only to create 200 new jobs, but to retain 25 full-time jobs in the project's initial three years, according to the state.

Davis said Kurz-Kasch is seeking state dollars to assist with a consolidation of its operations from several locations. He said Moraine was not able to provide a facility that met the company's needs in the required time.

Davis said there had been a chance that the company would leave Ohio altogether.

"At the end of the day, the state of Ohio is gaining a couple of hundred of jobs from this effort," he said.

The value of the state credit is estimated at $437,255 over the term, and the company will be required to maintain operations at the new site for 12 years, the state said in its announcement, which was released Monday.

In business since 1916, Kurz-Kasch is a specialty manufacturer focusing on "highly engineered electromagnetic and engineered composite components," the state said.

The department said Ohio was in competition with several other locations for the $1 million project.
