DAYTON — The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra has no plans to perform in Columbus in the wake of the recent cancellation of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra's 2008-09 season, DPO spokesman David Bukvic said today, July 29.

A Monday story in the "Columbus Dispatch," which was carried on the Associated Press wire, quoted Bukvic as saying that while the DPO wouldn't "want to be predatory in any way, shape or form," it would consider a road trip north to fill in some of the anticipated classical musical void.

"I'm sure we'll be actively talking with the Ohio Theatre about doing some concerts there," Bukvic — the DPO's Director of Marketing and Public Relations — is quoted as saying.

Today, Bukvic said the quote is "a misstatement," based on a misunderstanding.

"The DPO does not have plans to perform in the Columbus area, either now, or in the future," the orchestra said in an official statement released this afternoon.

DPO management and musicians all support the Columbus Symphony's efforts to resolve its current situation, Bukvic said. "We feel that any performances by the DPO in Columbus would completely send the wrong message."

Bukvik said he regrets any false impression his misstatement may have made.
