DAYTON — A union representing 120 reporters, copy editors and photographers urged the Dayton Daily News on Friday to begin negotiations on a contract to replace a 20-year-old pact the union says is outdated.
"Twenty years under the same labor contract is far too long," Lou Grieco, president-elect of the Dayton Newspaper Guild, said at a news conference. "The wage scales are out of date. Some of the other provisions are out of date."

Grieco said there have been no negotiations for a new contract for about 10 years.
Brett Thurman, general counsel for the Dayton Daily News, said the company is willing to resume negotiations.
"We're pleased to work with the Guild," Thurman said. "We see ourselves as having a lot of the same concerns they do, and we hope we can work out something everyone benefits from."
The union represents editorial employees at the newspaper owned by Cox Ohio Publishing.
