This year's Homearama cancelled

DAYTON — The slow-down in the housing market experienced in 2006 has led organizers of the annual Homearama show to cancel this year's event.
High levels of unsold homes remain on the market — leading many home builders to hold-off on building on speculation, said Tim Franck, executive director of the Home Builders Association of Dayton and the Miami Valley.

"Historically, builders were able to have product available (for the show) that was on the market for those who didn't want to wait six months or more to move into a new home," Franck said. "Because of the amount of inventory available on the market, builders are not interested in building additional spec homes right now, which is why we made the decision not to have Homearama in 2007."
The association is soliciting locations for a 2008 show, he said.
"We do anticipate that this temporary slow down will turn the other direction and the housing market will make it's way back," Franck said, pointing to more positive economic indicators such as steady interest rates and low energy and fuel prices.
"All those things are positive for the economy and have an impact on how people make what is typically the largest purchase of their life," Franck added.
