Local Hooters goes bust

DAYTON — The Hooters location on Ohio 725 in Centerville closed on Sunday after giving a one-day prior notice to its 40 employees.
The restaurant is a franchise owned by Restaurant Management Development based in Louisville, Ky. RMD owns 40 other locations in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Archie Gleason, director of marketing for RMD, said the restaurant closed because of a shortage of revenue.
"It was short of business, basically, the same reason most businesses close," he said. He added that the restaurant had "very dedicated regulars and employees who worked to keep the restaurant afloat as long as they could."
All employees were offered jobs at the Miller Lane and Springdale Hooters locations, and the managers were transferred to other locations.
"Mostly, I want to stress how painful it is to close a location, for financial reasons, of course, but most importantly for our employees and our staff. We don't like to leave anyone in the cold," Gleason said.
Gleason said that if the franchise had given longer notice to its employees, most would quit before the restaurant shut down, leaving Hooters with a significant labor shortage.
Hooters, which operates 435 locations worldwide and employs over 125,000 people, first opened in Clearwater, Fla., in 1983 and is known for its Hooters Girls and wings.
