Township trustees told developers of a Kroger shopping center hoping for approval Thursday night to come back in a month with better designs for the store and gas station proposed to be built at Ohio 48 and Ohio 73.

While the three trustees were united in their disdain for the signage and building designs, Trustees Ed Wade and Dale Lamb said they were ready to approve an 81,271-square-foot Kroger store, 11,250 feet of retail in an connected strip, a fuel center and two other businesses on 24 acres where the Windmill Farms market has operated for 30 years.

Only Trustee Greg McDonald rejected the proposed store sizes, as well as the designs, approved by the township and regional planning officials.

After the trustees' critique, and without comments from about 30 residents at the meeting, Kroger representatives met privately before deciding to rework their designs for an Oct. 25 meeting.
