JAMESTOWN — A mercury spill in a Greeneview High School science lab forced officials to cancel classes Thursday afternoon.
HAZMAT crews found traces of the chemical on three students' clothing, principal Wallace Campbell said.

The pupils' clothes were removed and officials will conduct further tests, he said, adding that there were no injuries as a result of the spill.
The incident occurred shortly after lunch when a mercury thermometer broke, causing a small amount of the chemical to spill during a class in the lab, Campbell. The teacher used an eyedropper to clean it, he said.
"We thought we got rid of all the mercury thermometers when we moved into the new high school," Campbell said. "I think there is minimal danger, but we are being cautious."
The high school was built six years ago.
Teacher-parent conferences scheduled for Thursday have been canceled, but athletic practices will begin at 5:30 p.m., the principal said.
