ST. CLAIR TWP., Butler County – A reward of more than $6,400 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for what is being called one of most extreme animal cruelty cases ever seen in Butler County.

Extras

The remains of the dog — believed to be a 2-year-old dark brown male chow/pit bull mix — were found along Four Mile Creek Road near Eaton Road.

A veterinarian who performed an autopsy said the 35- to 40-pound dog was boiled alive in either oil or water and then skinned, said Leland Gordon, executive director of the Animal Friends Humane Society in Trenton.

Butler County Animal Control Chief Vickey Steier said Sunday she anticipates the $6,420 reward will increase as more private donations are made.

The Humane Society of the United States, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Animal Friends Humane Society are offering the reward, according to the Trenton humane society.

This is absolutely appaling. People should not shun off animal cruelty as if it is not a big deal. If someone is capable of doing such a horrible crime to a poor animal they are capable of anything. I too believe the punishment should fit the crime then people might take these tactics a little more seriously. Someone should have mercy on your soul, because I know I sure wouldn’t.

This should be all over the news - whoever the sicko is, you can’t hide forever. One day you will be caught and you will have to answer to ALOT of folks. This kind of sick act is beyond comprehension. It takes someone who has no soul. God only knows what else this person will be capable of doing.

one of the sad things aside from the intentional cruelty to a living creature is that i find there is no follow-up with the media. the initial story is sensationalized, then if the perpretators are caught , the public is rarely informed. heinous crimes should be dealt with severely, without sounding radical i do believe the punishment should fit the crime!! someone we

Hopefully this disgusting act of lower than life sociopaths will attract national media attention . Legislation that permanently changes the category of dogs from chattels to sentient beings with appropriate punishment for the guilty must be pursued.

I guess these kids and children have made this world what it is. NOT-adults have made this mess of our world. This is the most disgusting crime, the criminals when caught, need to have the max sentence, but some of these judges are to soft on crime. They should be sent in front of Spaeth, he gives max on everything. He is the judge they need to be tried by. These morons really need to be treated like in the old days. High Street Court House, hung out to dry

I’m no FBI profiler or anything but don’t kids who start out like this end up being serials killers most of the time? The people need to be turned in and get some psychological help fast! (after they get out of jail of course!)

I can’t describe my sadness for this poor animal. And to only imagine how many other animals suffer that are never discovered. There’s just no excuse for it. I encourage the Journal to keep covering this story and the investigators to work to find this horibble, heartless person(s). They deserve the most severe punishment.

i hope the people who did this can live with them selves. someone along the river had to have seen them do this. i would like to know about how long the dog was deceased? maybe from that time they can tell about where it might have been done.i know it was a dog, but God will get you for that. And so will all us dog lovers of Butler County, I hope they find you and deal very harsh with you !!!!!!!!!

The sick individual (and I use that term loosely) should endure the same treatment that he did to the dog

It’s too bad the death penalty cannot be enforced in such a case—these offenders should get “eye for an eye” treatment in this case. I wouldn’t mind seeing it happen live in front of the old courthouse.

It has been proven that people who multilate and/or torture animals are those capable of doing the same to human beings. I pray that whoever is responsible for this horrid act is found and punished to the full extent of the law. I, too, would like to know how I can contribute to the reward being offered. Money makes people talk.

What is this world coming to? These kinds of things are so horrible and then these sicko’s move on to our children. What has happening to our society?

Why would people automatically think teenagers would do this. I in no way think that a child is responsible for this. Some old man that the dog was bothering did this. Or someone who wanted that fur. Perhaps of group of men. What ever that dog did to annoy that person it still didn’t deserve to die like that. When caught they should be hung over a boiling pot oil for several hours at the very least.

If this turns out to be a child who did this then please consider the risks of NOT giving him/her the worst of punishments.

NOTHING good has ever come from a child who has done things such as this. Emotions aside, at worst you may be dealing with a future serial killer; at best you are dealing with a future threat to society.

Please understand the severity of this crime… even if you DON’T like animals.

This act was not done in a fit of rage. It was methodical in nature, which signifies a psychopathic nature. For that reason alone added resources should be used to find the sick freak that did this. Was there any information as to where I could send a donation for the reward fund?

These incidents would be less frequent if we had tougher animal cruelty laws and prosecutors and judges who were willing to ask for and impose meaningful sentences. Typically animal abusers even if convicted get off with just a warning. Please urge your elected officials to get tough on animal abuse before this happens again.

Generally I am against capitol punishment, but I am sure I don’t want to share this earth with someone that evil. Someone in that neighborhood knows who did this and is wisely not cooperating with authorities, knowing what myself and like minded individuals would do to him or her.

I’m thankful the media is bringing attention to this disturbing case. I wish Leland Gordon and the Butler Co. Animal Control Officers the best of luck in identifying the person (s) responsible for this crime. Maybe the attention garnered will deter any would be monsters out there.

We are so quick to pass judgment on teenagers being responsible everytime we hear something so heinous about an animal. Shouldn’t we as a society, put away the noose we automatically pull out for teenagers. The only thing we know for sure is, this person or persons is extremely sick/cruel. Lets focus on that, and removing them from society. Maybe if we stop slamming teenagers everytime something happens, they can start believing in themselves.

A slap on the wrist is not enough. Laws need to get stricter on abuse or it won’t detur cruel behavor.

More than 50 years ago I went looking for my missing dog only to find him skinned and laying behind a garage on 15th Ave in Middletown, To this day I dont think it was Teens that done the awful deed. As a Pet Owner myself having 2 Dogs that eat better than we do think the maximum should be given if caught.

Only a coward and an evil person would do this to an animal that can’t fight back. This person(s) needs to be caught and prosecuted before they do it again, maybe to child this time. Let’s hope not.

These are likely to be teenagers. If they are not stopped and punished, NOW, they will be murdering people when they get older.
