Area coach held on sex charge

BROOKVILLE — Brookville girls' basketball coach Todd P. Shellabarger was charged with three counts of gross sexual imposition with a child under 13 on Tuesday after a police investigation over the weekend.

Police Chief Ed Preston said Shellabarger, 38, coached non-school affiliated girls' basketball and softball in the area for the past decade. Shellabarger coached fifth and sixth grade girls' basketball in Brookville and also coaches in the Dayton Vipers girls' basketball program.

Sgt. Doug Jerome said Tuesday evening Shellabarger was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail on Saturday night on an unrelated domestic violence complaint.

Police learned of the alleged sexual imposition over the holiday weekend and interviewed Shellabarger in jail. He was charged with three counts of gross sexual imposition with a child under 13, a third-degree felony. He had not been charged for the domestic violence incident as of Tuesday.

Shellabarger remained in jail Tuesday night on a $7,500 cash surety bond. Preston urged the parents of children coached by Shellabarger to speak with their children and contact police at (937) 833-2001 if they have anything to report.
