DAYTON — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is warning about illegal burning that can pollute the air.

State and local air quality agencies want to remind you that open burning is illegal in many cases, said Heather Lauer of the OEPA. The state has documented two instances of mobile homes set afire in Highland County.

Burning garbage, buildings, rubber, grease, asphalt or other petroleum products is prohibited.

The Ohio EPA can fine violators up to $250 a day for burning on residential property and up to $1,000 a day for burning on industrial, commercial, institutional or municipal property.
