DAYTON — Former City Day Community School Superintendent Roseda Goff appeared at a pretrial hearing Friday, facing a misdemeanor charge of attempted obstruction of official business.
Juvenile Court Judge Tony Capizzi set a trial date of Oct. 5, noting that Julie Bruns, chief of the juvenile division of the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office, did not offer a plea deal during a meeting in his chambers. Prosecutors allege Goff, 60, of Jefferson Twp., discouraged teachers at the charter school from reporting suspected child abuse to authorities.

Goff did not speak and her attorney, David Turner, declined comment after the hearing.
Ohio law requires teachers to report incidents of suspected child abuse to authorities. Prosecutors said a City Day student's mother now faces child abuse charges because teachers alerted police.
Goff also is at the center of an Ohio Department of Education investigation into allegations that students at City Day practiced for state achievement tests by drilling on questions that later appeared on the exam. The Dayton Daily News in February reported that 44 questions on City Day's practice tests were identical or substantially the same as questions that appeared on the achievement tests.
Last month, City Day's sponsor, Cincinnati-based Education Resource Consultant of Ohio, dismissed the school's five-member governing board for refusing to fire Goff. A new board and superintendent were installed and terminated her.
