He is charged with three felonies of kidnapping and one felony each of robbery and rape.
Sheriff's Lt. Steve Lord said Monday that Ashcraft allegedly asked the woman, who he knew through an acquaintance, for a ride on Aug. 18. The woman agreed and picked Ashcraft up in Clark County.
As they were driving through Miami County he "grabbed her by the hair and held a knife to her throat" as he raped and robbed her in her van, Lord said. The additional kidnapping charges involve two young children with the woman who were not harmed.
After the alleged attack in Miami County, the man had the woman go to a hotel in Butler Twp., Montgomery County, where she was held for nine to 10 hours. She was able to escape and seek help when Ashcraft allegedly took medication and nodded off, Lord said.
His next court hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Municipal Court.
Ashcraft was released from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction this summer after serving a sentence for a 1997 robbery of a couple in Bethel Twp.
