Police find 570 pounds of pot while investigating crash on I-75

Deputies responding to a sport utility vehicle crash Friday on Interstate 75 in northern Shelby County found 570 pounds of marijuana inside valued at $1.15 million, according to the Shelby County sheriff's office.

The 30-year-old driver from Texas, who had minor injuries, was jailed on suspicion of felony drug trafficking and driving under the influence. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Sidney Municipal Court.

Deputies said the driver claimed he was heading to Detroit at the time of the crash.

Sheriff Kevin O'Leary said the driver crossed an exit ramp at Botkins Road and Interstate 75 and struck a guard rail and road sign about 8:37 p.m. The vehicle then rolled and came to rest against a fence east of the exit ramp.
