"His strengths rested in developing the infrastructure" of a school, said Philip Lootens, retired vice president for education. "Those strengths are crucial for a new school."
Seitz began as an industrial arts teacher in 1950 in Pennsylvania. He taught at Temple University and Kansas State College before becoming dean of the Mineral Area College in Missouri in 1965 and then the College of Lake County, Ill.
Those years of teaching industrial arts never left him. The founding member of the Shelby County Woodcarvers Association, he wrote nine books and numerous articles on woodworking and woodcarving.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Florence, and four daughters.
The funeral will be 10 a.m., Friday at the First Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road, Sidney. Burial with military honors will follow at Shelby Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
