Pediatrician's arrest on child porn charges surprises parents
Friday, October 26, 2007
TROY — One parent expressed relief Thursday when she learned that federal agents don't believe the child pornography seized from Dr. Robert V. Reinhold depicts any of his patients.
"It puts me at ease," said Jamie Sullivan, whose young daughter was a patient of Reinhold, a Troy pediatrician. "It was quite a shock when I heard it."

Federal agents arrested Reinhold, 55, on Wednesday after searching his Concord Twp. home and Troy office, Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine on South Stanfield Road.
Agents said they found in Reinhold's desk 19 manila folders containing more than 1,700 images of minors in various stages of undress. Many of the images depicted minors engaging in "lascivious displays or engaging in acts of sexual activity." None of the images, however, have been linked to Reinhold's patients.
Reinhold is charged with possessing child pornography.
An affidavit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Dayton states Reinhold admitted he began viewing such images three to five years ago. Reinhold said he had joined approximately two dozen members-only Web sites that granted access to child pornography.
"Reinhold states that he did not remember any names of the Web sites and claims he had paid several hundred dollars to subscribe to the Web sites, but did not remember specific amounts," the affidavit reads.
Reinhold also allegedly said he joined the Web sites using a credit card or PayPal account.
Troy police and the Miami County Sheriff's Office said they took numerous calls throughout the day from parents concerned about medical records, photos taken in Reinhold's office and the allegations against him.
Sheriff's Capt. Dave Duchak said members of the sheriff's office were equally concerned, as many had taken their children to the pediatrician.
"Nothing surprises me anymore," Duchak said.
Parents, meanwhile, scrambled to find care for their children.
Two members of Reinhold's staff sat in their office building foyer answering parents' questions and making referrals as necessary. They declined to comment.
"He was always a great guy and a very good physician," said Deb McAnally, whose two children have been patients of Reinhold for the past seven years. She said she never observed any inappropriate behavior.
Gayleen Winston's son has been seeing Reinhold for nearly 15 years.
"I never had any indication whatsoever, never, that there was anything wrong," she said. "He was excellent to us, absolutely excellent."
Reinhold remained jailed Thursday in the Miami County Incarceration Facility with no bond. He is scheduled for a detention hearing at 9 a.m. Monday in U.S. District Court.
The federal investigation is part of Operation Predator, a nationwide initiative to protect children from sexual predators.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is asked to call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Cincinnati at (513) 684-2930.
