VANDALIA — Vandalia police believe a 17-year-old Butler Twp. resident who was arrested Sunday after allegedly robbing a woman at knifepoint is also the suspect they've been seeking for a pair of October home invasion-abductions.
Lt. Charlie Reboulet said an Attica Drive woman on her way to her carport at 11:42 p.m. Sunday was accosted by a youth who forced her to hand over a purse containing her credit cards. The woman fled into the house, slamming the door on his hand as he tried to follow her.

In the October robberies, the suspect forced victims to drive him to automatic teller machines to withdraw money.
The woman called police with his description and police arrested the suspect about a half hour later, Reboulet said. The victim identified her assailant, Reboulet said.
The suspect is being held in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center and police expect juvenile charges of aggravated robbery will be filed today.
The October robberies — Oct. 18 on Dunnigan Drive and Oct. 23 on Crestwood Hills Drive — alarmed residents. "This was very out of the ordinary for Vandalia," Reboulet said. "We concentrated a lot of investigative resources on getting this solved."
On Monday, Reboulet said the youth arrested Sunday was a suspect all along. Detectives searched his home after the earlier incidents, but couldn't find enough evidence. Reboulet said the robberies stopped for a while after detectives interviewed the youth and searched his house. Sunday's incident was the first in Vandalia in three weeks.
On Sunday night, police found a knife believed to have been used in the Attica Drive robbery and a BB gun matching the description of a weapon in the first two robberies.
Police said the suspect lived, at one time, in the area where the other robberies occurred. He was a Butler High School student, but was suspended or expelled. The youth has a juvenile crime record, but nothing as serious as the robbery charge, Reboulet said.
