'Ghost Hunters' to visit base this week

The TV show will investigate suspected paranormal activity at WPAFB's Area C.

> Where would you send Ghost Hunters around here?

Staff Writer

Wednesday, January 09, 2008

After years of reports about apparitions, disembodied voices and doors slamming on their own, Rachel Castle decided to call in the Ghost Busters.

Actually, Castle contacted the "Ghost Hunters," or The Atlantic Paranormal Society who have their own show on the SciFi Channel explaining ghosts and other paranormal activity.

Extras

Except instead of coming to her home, Castle invited them to her workplace — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where she works in public affairs.

"I'm personally a big fan of the show," she said. "They really try to disprove or find an explanation for these things. We are very excited to host them."

The "Ghost Hunters," Rhode Island plumbers-by-day Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, arrive Thursday to spend a week using high-tech cameras and other gear to try to catch unexplained voices, sounds and apparitions. The visit is expected to air this year.

They will spend the night at these Area C buildings:

• Arnold House: The oldest building on the base, where workers have heard children laughing and playing and unexplained footsteps after hours.

• Building 219: A former children's hospital that is now office space, where the ghost of a little boy has been sighted several times.

• Building 70: A former warehouse, now offices, where voices and other unexplained noises have been heard.

Carolyn Kugle, a Fairborn native and management assistant in Building 70, has heard boxes moving, knocking and voices after hours when she was alone in the building.

"I think its a ghost," she said. "It has to be something. Too many people have seen things in this building."

Why would an air base known for its secrecy and is often the target of conspiracies involving alien aircraft and spying technology invite "Ghost Hunters" to spend the night behind the fence?

"I think it will be interesting for people who work and live here to find out what happens here," said Castle, who had to clear the visit with the Pentagon. "There's a buzz on base about it."

I thought this was for people to post suggestions of places for TAPS to visit, not a debate over the afterlife. Personally, I don’t know a lot about the Dayton area, but I would like to see TAPS investigate Mother of Mercy High School in Cincinnati. This one is written up in books, has been on the news, and in the papers. Sr. Mary Carlos, the old drama teacher, has been seen here.

also, the Golden Lamb and I think the place is called Rose Hill? girl arsenicd her boyfriend?

I am glad to see someone else brought up Old Trail Tavern in YSprings. I posted about this myself. Makes me think there is something to it. Sometimes they find things on shows sometimes they don’t. That is what makes me beleive. We all have a RIGHT to believe or not to believe. I am really surprised at the naysayers writing in. If you don’t believe why are you reading or writing. Need someone to be negative to?

I emailed the Ghost Hunters before they came to Dayton and suggested that they investigate the Air Force Museum. I have had friends that worked on the cleaning crew and they saw and heard alot of things.

(cont’d)…things got worse as me & my sisters grew up. I saw orbs and felt an angry presence always n the house. We eventually had the house blessed. This made things worse. A friend who said she could see ghosts refused 2 come back 2 our house after the blessing, she said the ghost was too angry. My parents eventually got a divorce and the ghost seemed to act up more. the doors would shut on their own and no windows were up & our last day there, the ghost appeared laughing at my mom as she left

I think my dad’s house should b checked out n Beavercreek. It used 2 b known as the ‘Black House’ b4 my parents moved n. No neighbors would visit us until my parents painted & redid parts of the house. My parents tried 2 take layers of paint & paper off the wall & they found the upside down star on the wall. My mom looked up the history & found out that area used 2 b a pig slaughtering area. When I was little, I used 2 c a black hand on my pillow & nothing else.mom would c a man at end of bed.

I can’t believe how ridiculous some people can be! Why are so many so negative!? You believe what you want to believe and I’ll believe what I want to believe! Don’t shoot down someone else’s fun because of your difference in opinions. Who freaking cares! Thats what makes our world so interesting! Stop trying to conform and ENJOY our differences! ITS CALLED CULTURE! How ever benign and sad it may be :) Its nauseating to read some of the posts on here. Stay calm people!

And by this same exact reasoning, God doesn’t exist:

My house was empty for years before I bought it. Later learned someone died in it. Every night about 3am my doorbell would ring. I go to the door and no one is there. Looked at neighbors homes and no one was there either. (thinking somehow our doorbells on the same frequency). I eventually disconnected my entire doorbell system, and my doorbell still rings daily everyday at 3 am and it is not even connected.

I just wish people weren’t so close-minded. Maybe if you start exploring things you don’t understand it’ll make you a believer. Quit telling people what to believe. Just because you haven’t witnessed something supernatural doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist(Michael C). I personally believe in the supernatural b/c I’ve seen and heard things.

To believe or not to believe is a decision for each person to make. It’s not my place to make you believe my ways. I can disagree, but I find it ridiculous that ADULTS on here are telling people to “grow up”, because they simply believe in ghost. I used to believe that they “ghosts”, spirits, etc., were not real until a couple of years ago. We were staying at a friend’s house and in the middle of the night I felt like something/someone sat on the end of the bed. I even looked and saw the …

Just because you dont BELIEVE in ghosts certainly doesnt mean they dont exist.

You can’t prove a negative, i.e. I don’t have to prove ghosts do not exist. YOU have to prove they DO exist. If you can’t prove ghosts exist, then they don’t.

Let’s say I claim I’m from another planet. Can you prove I am NOT? You can’t, can you? Therefore I MUST be from another planet. Does my reasoning sound logical to you? Of course not. But that’s the same reasoning you’re using to claim ghosts exist.

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, please don’t attack others with your own beliefs or opinions, and that’s what you are doing when you tell people to grow up or refer to them with “$%&@#”.

I’ve seen enough of ghosts to not be able to disbelieve them. From my own experiences at the Air Force Museum, to the Octagon House in Washington DC, to my own schools and home, I have many stories I could tell. The one place I would have loved TAPS to visit, unfortunately has been torn down.

I was born and raised in the Miami Villa off of Rip Rap. Scared out of my wits all of the time from the stories, but I never did see anything to substantiate the stories. Rumor has it there are indian burial grounds in the area. I am a christian and do not believe that God allows his “children/believers” to hang in limbo, so I believe if there are supernatural entities, they must truly be evil and I believe they take on the form of children from time to time to further trick us.

Hey Michael, who died and made you big head boss? Just because you dont BELIEVE in ghosts certainly doesnt mean they dont exist. This planet has collected millions of spirits over thousands of years. Who are we to say something does or doesnt exist? More proof exists that apparitions DO exist than dont. The only person that needs to grow up is you and stop being so closed minded.

Christians know from God’s word that when Christians die, they do not dwell on the earth to witness evil and sadness. There is no evil or sadness with God in heaven. There is evil on the earth. There is a devil. The Holy Spirit, sent by God, is with us on the earth. I know this from His word. However, there are so many things beyond our comprehension as human beings. Some of these phenomenon that people are referring to, and Aliens and the like, are some of those things.

I went to Gettysburg with an open mind. All I saw was an eerie yellow glow between 2 trees, about 8 feet apart, on a battlefield one dark evening. On the same hot, sticky night, she and I both felt a cold blast on our faces. We took photos showing many orbs of different sizes. God gave us a free will. We can chose to linger or go to the light.

She lived in Gettysburg, PA where there are countless ghost sightings. I asked her why these Civil War ghosts have lingered all this time. She replied it was because they don’t know they’re dead. Apparently, when people die an abrupt death, sometimes they don’t realize that they are dead so they linger. Continued…

I put the Jesus smack down on a bunch of Demons. I be like you got no power here. That be all they got from there. Jesus already took care of it and now I got power over this stuff. You won’t see me running like the ghost hunters. I will be right there. Don’t run from, or to, just stand your ground and the Lord will take care of you. If you are a Christian.

If you live in a house with demons then you should rebuke them in the name of Jesus. The Bible says to submit your thoughts unto the Lord and resist the devil and he will flee. Demons and ghosts have no power but what you give them. Jesus paid the price on Calvary and it is finished. Sorry to burst the bubble.

The “ghost” you are seeing are not ghost at all, they are wicked spirit creatures who at one time were god’s angels. They were induced by Satan and having free will chose to become wicked, which the bible now calls them demons. They love to scare folks, imitate dead people and do a whole host of other wicked deeds and acts. If you are living in a house where they are harrasing you and your family, it is best to leave. They are superhuman, wicked creatures that love to inflict pain and suffering.

The Villa in HUBER HEIGHTS off of RIP RAP ROAD…As a young child I seen 2 small children they look to be AMERICAN INDIAN. They pooped up out of no where while I was riding my cousins bike. The little girl just stuck her arm up at me. I knew that this wasn’t right so, I jumped off of that bike and ran like the dickins. I looked back and there was noone there. I never stayed that night with my cousin again after that.

I worked there for a bit of time and one night another employee and myself went into a mechanical room to go threw the court yard and for some reason the door would not open so we went to go back the way we came and there at the entrance was a figure he and I ran back to the other door and there it was again. “Ghost Hunters”. What a joke of a show. Saw it for the first time tonight. The “hunters” weren’t professional or scientific in their investigative approach at all. Talking, walking, making noise, more talking, more noise making. All kinds of gadgets, yes, but geez. Give me a break. When these “hunters” heard or saw something what did they do? They got scared and ran the other way! If they were true “hunters” shouldn’t they go toward the thing they saw or heard and investigate further?

I can understand both sides of this haunting thing.I believe those who say that the dead can’t harm the living, but what I do believe is that there are demons. Demons are the result of their falling away from the truth of God, and have been cast down to the earth. I also believe that the UFO’s contain demons, and that when Wright Patt decided to bring Roswell debris etc. and messed with them in those underground bunker that they have been in contact with these demons for years. Were the “Ghost Hunters” allowed to investigate the vast complex UNDER Wright-Patterson? It’s the new “Area 51”. They could get interviews with various galactic beings (HA!) (alive and dead…they can contact the deceased can’t they?…shouldn’t matter where they came from). I observed odd things while working the flight line while in The 906th TFG in the 80’s (wasn’t from inhaling F-4 exhaust). Heard rumors, asked specific people, was told to be quiet, and shut my mouth. The threats worked.

Although I have experienced a couple of strange happenings, do I believe in ghosts? Any strange event, whether a “haunting”, or a UFO “sighting/abduction”, or a demonic “possession”, regardless of the genuineness, or honesty, of the observer, must be examined according to the “facts”, just like a crime scene investigation, in order to extract the truth. Too often, however, truth is set aside for mere belief.Nevertheless, facts confined to our dimension reflect only a fraction of the whole truth.

About a week or two later, another incident happened that we both heard. We were sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room. Sometime about 8 or 9 ‘oclock in the morning, I was lying there awake and contemplating on getting up. Something started plucking at the bed springs at about knee level on my girlfriend’s side of the bed and was moving up the bed. I whispered to her to listen to it. Who is this Michael guy calling people morons? Gods word, The Bible, plainly states that when you’re dead, you’re dead. No spirits floating around, you’re asleep until you’re called up. Therefore Michael the moron, if you believe in God you can’t believe in ghosts. Just because you say you believe in something doesnt make it so. Try learning about what you believe in.

That being said, I believe in the supernatural. I just think only certain people are able to interact with it and I can’t.

People, there are no ghost. If there were, then it wouldn’t be such a “mystery”. These ghost hunters can make up anything they want to and you people will believe them. Quit living the life of Casper.

They can come to my apartment. I’ve been here 8 months and have seen a woman about 10 times. Just a good glimpse really. Looks like she is dressed in 1920s fashion and her hair is up in a bun. She doesn’t bother me but I’m curious about who he is.

Sometimes even when they cannot prove what is causing something they still are not ready to say it’s something supernatural. Take the time to watch the show before you critisize what you do not know about. I believe in God and the supernatural, because frankly, to not believe in them both makes no sense to me. If you don’t believe in spirits after death, you can’t believe in God and the afterlife. Freakin morons around here anymore!

Wow, I’m surprised at all the idiots that don’t believe in science in conjunction with believing in God. People, they are so intertwined and related that it’s more than obvious. Or maybe just obvious to those with half a brain. To those who discredit what they do, you must not watch much of their show. They go into every situation trying to prov that what the people are seeing and/or hearing is something logical and not supernatural.

That show is an hour of my life that I will NEVER get back. Oh PLEASE let me stay in a “Haunted” place for an evening I could use the sleep.

So if this is based on “Science”( snicker). Science doesn’t recognize a God therefore how can you have Ghosts? Think about it. NO GHOSTS !!

I would love it if the Ghost Hunters would come out to my house, built in 1879 and has a lot of history. I moved in in February (the previous owner died and his son sold it to me). I’ve experienced a lot of activity in the short time I’ve lived here. My parent’s house is about 10 minutes away from me and even older than mine. It was built 1819, and it has more history to it with the undergounrd railraod etc. I experienced several paranormal things growing up there, including full body apparition

I think TAPS should inestgate 10 Wilmington Place. The building that is now 10 Wilmington Place used to be the site of the state insane asylum and this area was a completely self contained community for the severley mentally ill written off by society. It was complete with its own labotomy and shock treatment facilites. The hospitals have numerous underground tunnels used for transport and remenants of the shackles can still be seen in the basement. This is the site where many mentally ill died.

Definitely some places in Centerville, my mom used to work for the rec center and she taught dance in the town hall theater and brought me along as a child, it was so creepy! I also heard stuff while exploring on my own. The woodland cemetery is also a very interesting place. They’ve got some really old buildings over there! Oooh and the VA, very old and creepy :)

I’m so excited to go meet them tomorrow! Its probably going to be a crazy mess!

I used to work at the Salem, Upper Valley, and Dayton Malls as a store clerk. Things were always disappearing off of the shelves during broad daylight, especially when hip hop clad people would walk in. Craziness.

I can’t believe there was only one posting on the Old Fort Piqua Motel in downtown Piqua. This is the hotel that they are currently spending millions of dollars restoring. I know I would not spend one dime to spend a haunted night in that place onces its done, Oh well at least the ghosts will have something to read since the library will be moving in there. Check out the books : Haunted Ohio

I, too grew up a quarter mile from staley rd. in Bethal Township. I hunted old man Staley’s woods many times. He would chase me out constantly. I would see him coming after me and run. One time he chased me to the cornfield, I jumped the fence and sat down and watched him. He leaned on the fence post and pulled his pocket knife out and cleaned his fingernails knowing I was sitting hidden watching him. After 10 to 15 minutes he just walked away. This was 47 years ago, when he was very much alive.

I really think they should go to Chamberlin Middle School in carlisle, because when i was in that building the doors opened on there own and noises we’re heard all the time. Yeah you might think its just us kids being young and stupid or teachers just tryin to be funny but when the door opened on its own it wasnt a joke anymore! In the basement and the locker room is were the noises were heard, and we had a teacher kill him self but it wasnt there, but he is said to still be seen! so CHECK IT!

hey NONSENSE. paranormal investigating isn’t ‘based on’ any science, per se, but investigators do use a lot of scientific equipment and measurments in their investigations. we are just looking for answers. there is no school, but there are seminars and classes one could attend to expand their knowlege. there is no ‘degree’, though, these classes/seminars are for self informative purposes only. there are no ‘experts’ in the field, we learn as we go. hope that clears some things up for you :
