Evenflo announces recall of infant car seats
Saturday, February 02, 2008
VANDALIA — Evenflo Co. Inc., a manufacturer of products for infants, said it has begun a voluntary safety recall of car seats that could separate from their bases during high-impact collisions involving the sides of vehicles.
The recall involves Discovery infant car seat with the model numbers 390, 391, 534 and 552, Evenflo said in a news release. About 1 million of the seats were produced beginning in April 2005, management said.

"This is based on recent laboratory tests conducted by Evenflo and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which show that this car seat could potentially become separated from its base in high-impact side collisions similar to those in the tests," Evenflo's statement said. "As a precautionary measure, Evenflo is providing current owners of these models with a free supplemental, dual-hook fastener that has proven that the seat remains attached to the base in the event of such collisions."
Evenflo said it is taking steps intended to improve the safety of future models of the Discovery seat. Those modified seats will be available to consumers starting in the second quarter of 2008, according to the company.
Evenflo announced in December that it is relocating its headquarters and 150 jobs there from Vandalia to Miamisburg. The move could begin as soon as this month, Miamisburg officials have said.
