Tuesday, April 08, 2008

The teeth of a former Moraine man match a bite mark on the body of the man he is accused of stabbing to death, a forensic dentist testified Tuesday, April 8.

"Mr. Scott is the probable biter," the dentist, Franklin D. Wright, told a Montgomery County Common Pleas jury.

But during cross examination, Wright said the bite could have come anytime during the two days before Chadwick Stapleton's death.

Aaron Scott, 44, is charged with murder and aggravated robbery in the May 22, 2004, slaying of Stapleton.

Scott been a suspect since July 2004, although a grand jury declined to indict him in that year.

Stapleton, 34, was stabbed three times in the head and chest while leaving his car in front of his apartment complex on Lamme Road in Miami Twp.

During his opening statement, defense attorney Marshall Lachman told the jury that Scott had known Stapleton for years, but knew him as "Ted."

Days before Stapleton's slaying, Stapleton stopped by Scott's apartment and the two were wrestling when Scott bit Stapleton, Lachman said.

Prosecution witness Gregory Credlebaugh testified that he had known Stapleton for more than three decades and Stapleton never spoke of Scott and never went by the name "Ted."

The trial, in the courtroom of Judge Dennis Langer, started Monday with jury selection. Testimony will continue Wednesday, April 9.
