Man faces cruelty charge in cat's death

DAYTON — A Tipp City man accused of beating a pet cat to death in front of a group of small children after hurling the animal from the second story of a home faces punishment of up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for the act, the Dayton city prosecutor said Wednesday, April 23.
Anthony Harrison Dill, 20, was arrested Thursday, April 17, in the 2800 block of East Fourth Street. He is charged with animal cruelty, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Dill faces additional first-degree misdemeanor charges, said chief municipal prosecutor Deirdre Logan. He's charged with public indecency, which could earn him 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.
In an unrelated incident that occurred April 14, Dill faces charges of theft and misuse of a credit card. For each charge, Dill faces up to 180 days in jail and up to $1,000 in fines.
Dill, who remains in the Montgomery County Jail, faces a trial on April 28 on the theft charge. A pre-trial hearing on the animal abuse case is scheduled for April 30.
Neighbor Tiffany Harrison, 23, said children in the neighborhood, including her relatives, watched as Dill threw the cat off the roof of the house, ran down the stairs and stomped the animal to death in the street.
Harrison said the cat lived in the house and belonged to Dill's girlfriend.
Miami County records show that Dill, who is 5 feet 11 and weighs 190 pounds, has convictions for menacing and disorderly conduct, among other charges.
Mark Kumpf, director of the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center, said his officers are officially dog wardens and are not typically involved in cases involving cats.
Kumpf said his shelter is starting a voluntary program in July so people can voluntarily register their pet cats.
